The Global Esports Tour heads to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons, starting this summer.
The Global Esports Federation confirmed GET Rio de Janeiro, further adding to its momentum in South America. This development adds to the excitement of the inaugural Panam Esports Championships which will be staged together with the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, this June.
Brazil is a key growth area for esports and hosting the GET in Rio de Janeiro is a testament to the region’s commitment to the development of esports.
“We are thrilled to confirm Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a host city for the Global Esports Tour for the next three years. Brazil is a key growth area for esports, and we believe that this event will not only showcase the talent of professional esports athletes but also provide an opportunity to continue to fuel the growth in this powerhouse region,” Chris Chan, President of the GEF, said.
“In addition to increasing the State’s economy, esports is also a way of transforming lives. It’s a privilege to bring to Rio de Janeiro an international sporting event that also promotes music, arts, and culture. We are a proud host of this important global event for our youth and gaming community, and we are committed to the development of esports,” Rodrigo Castro, Special Advisor for Events for the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, said.
Paulo Roberto Ribas, President of the Brazilian Confederation of Games and Esports, said: “We are honored to be chosen to host a stage of the Global Esports Tour for the next three years. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our talented esports athletes, promote esports in our region, and develop the esports industry in Brazil.”
