History has been made in Dubai, where the first-ever Red Bull Tetris World Final Champion has been crowned. During an electrifying showdown, Fehmi Atalar from Turkey has emerged victorious in the inaugural Red Bull Tetris World Final, defeating national champions from 60 countries in a high-stakes, drone-powered Tetris faceoff, bringing the iconic puzzle game to life like never before. Taking place against the backdrop of the Dubai Frame, a landmark that has become a symbol of architectural innovation, has now witnessed the world’s first playable Tetris game in the sky.
In the lead-up to the World Final, all national winners across the globe participated in seeding rounds to determine match placement, before advancing to intense 1v1 duels at the stunning desert venue of Terra Solis. Then, on December 13, the World Final was brought to life with a jaw-dropping drone show by Lumasky, whose World Record technology transformed the night sky into a playable Tetris canvas, marking the first time the beloved classic puzzle game has been rendered live in the sky with over 2,000 playable drones.
The climactic final between Fehmi Atalar and Leo Soloranzo from Peru kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Starting with a head to head format, the opening match between the two semi-finalists decided who would face the frame first, where Fehmi won. He decided to go a tactical second to see how competitor Leo would play.
Each player then had 5 minutes to play a solo, drone-powered game where the Dubai Frame was lit up with thousands of drones, assembling to create a live gaming Tetris match to be seen from miles around and ultimately take the World Champion title. Leo quickly found his signature cool and calm gameplay style, utilising incredible T-Spin strategies and gaining momentum to achieve a huge 57,164 points.
For the final game with Fehmi, he started unusually cautious. But soon the Turkish player found his pace, picking up speed and beating Leo’s score two thirds of the way through his 5-minute timed match. That didn’t stop him playing until the final countdown and racking up an incredible 168,566 points, securing his historic victory as the inaugural Red Bull Tetris Champion. Fehmi said: “I said after the semi-finals that if I win it will be a huge achievement for my country and myself. So it is really insane to win today, it feels surreal. Over these 5 years of Tetris experience, this was the best moment and this event was one of a kind. I managed to play like a machine and although I could have done things a bit cleaner, I achieved a flawless run and did not miss a single point in any of my matches so I am very happy”
Beyond the tournament, the Red Bull Tetris World Final weekend also saw an incredible feat of bravery where professional, award winning BASE athletes Dani Roman and Darren Burke leapt from 150 meters off the top of the Dubai Frame and landed safely on stage. Artist El Waili joined forces with Firdaus Orchestra to deliver a dazzling reimagining of the Tetris soundtrack. The futuristic electronic rhythms met classical orchestral melodies, a live musical journey that captured both Tetris’ evolution and its iconic legacy. Guests were treated to immersive fan experiences rounding out an unforgettable celebration that captivated audiences live in Dubai and across the globe.
