Hawks Talon GC, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, will host 76ers GC at ‘The Lab presented by Diggi Games by Georgia Lottery’ for an in-person contest on Sunday, June 25 at 5 p.m. This will mark the third time in franchise history that Hawks Talon will host another team at their facility to compete in-person.
“After breaking the mold last season by bringing teams to us, we wanted to build off of that and make sure we executed this again this season,” said Hawks Talon Director of Esports Wesley Acuff. “To us, it’s all about engaging with our fans and building a community here so we love when we can physically bring people together for games.”
Last season, Hawks Talon became the first team in league history to host another team at their facility to play on stage when they hosted and defeated Hornets Venom GT on July 12, 2022. One week later on July 19, 2022, Hawks Talon hosted Wizards District Gaming and defeated the defending league champions.
The game will be the fourth game in THE TURN group play for Hawks Talon, who will kick off group play with a matchup with Hornets Venom GT tonight at 7 p.m. ET. Hawks Talon is looking to advance to Washington D.C. for bracket play and a $250,000 prize pool at stake. The top 16 teams at the end of group play will advance to bracket play.
“I have close friends on 76ers GC, and I am looking forward to being able to talk smack to them in-person,” said MarkDavid Smith (MDS), the shooting guard for Hawks Talon GC. “We as a team are excited to take on THE TIPOFF champs in our home facility.”
Hawks Talon GC is led by Smith, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick, who averaged 17.8 points per game during THE TIPOFF his first 5v5 action as a professional. In a 66-63 win over 76ers GC on June 1, Smith recorded a career-high 27 points on 11-for-18 shooting. 76ers GC went on to win THE TIPOFF tournament on Saturday, June 17.
