The rap superstar, Drake, continues to expand his investment in sports  by funding an eSports betting company named Players’ Lounge. Outside of Silicon’s elite, Drake is also mentioned alongside venture capitalist companies such as Comcast Ventures and Canaan.
Austin Woolridge, the co-creator of Players’ Lounge, disclosed that Drake was one of several other investors who believed in his dreams. As a result, the rapper and some of Silicon Valley’s biggest names joined forces to help Woolridge and his partner secure $3 million in funding.
The company that Woolridge says was started “because it was tough to fit more than five people in a New York City apartment,” is a platform where gamers can play against members for various prizes. Now, through the help of investors, Players’ Lounges plans to grow.
“In 2019 we plan on expanding our development team, supporting more games, adding streaming functionality and creating new formats for our community to compete in,” Woolridge said. “We’re growing like crazy, but it still feels like we’re cultivating a tight-knit community of gamers and doing something we love—if we do our job right, that’s always how Players’ Lounge will be.”
