A new study report, published based on the data from market research firm Interpret, reveals that women form almost one-third of esports viewership. There has been a steady rise of female esports viewers over the last two years.
This report rejects the stereotype concept that the vast majority of those involved in esports, from players to casters to viewers, are young and male.
The company found in the study that as of the end of 2018, 30.4 per cent of esports viewers were women—the proportion was 6.5 per cent at the end of 2016.
The report agrees with some conventional norms too. The study also finds that key esports titles like Dota 2, Counter-Strike and even Overwatch fail to capture the female.
